Pecos Wilderness
Great time in the mountains! Trees were in high color. The scouts and adults went up the hill and then down the hill again. No one got lost (unlike other times) and after a stop at Mickey D’s, the Troop returned safe and sound. The scoutmaster had a thrill riding with ole DW.
Court of Honor
November 6 is Court of Honor. We will have a slide show of recent camps starting at 7:00 pm. Plan to attend!!
Museum News
The International Scouting Exhibit has been finalized and can be seen on the wall in the southwest corner of the building.
Alumni News
Steve and Melissa Banks just had (well actually, she had) a new baby boy, John Aiden Banks. Born on 9-6-01 at 11:50 pm weighing 7 lbs. 2 oz. Congrats and now we know that Steve will be in the Troop at least for another 18 years.
John Filipowicz has started his second year of the Coast Guard Academy. He just broke a bone in his wrist which makes pole vaulting a little more of a challenge.
Several of our former scouts are now hanging out in Lubbock, going to Texas Tech --- Seth McAlexander, Justin Smiley, Slater Ebeling, Brad Eck, Ben Bailey. Good Luck!
Thanks to Parents
At the Phall Phamily Kickoff and Court of Honor. All scouts who received ranks, with one exception, had one or both parents present to see them receive their ranks and support them in their scouting efforts. Thank you very much for taking the time to come out and support your sons. Although in Boy Scouting the work is primarily done away from the parents, it is very important that each scout knows that he is being supported at home. We will have another Court of Honor on November 6.
Old Gear
We still need old uniforms, hiking boots, black sweatshirts, gray t-shirts and camping gear. Just drop by on a Tuesday night during the meeting.
Christmas Family Banquet
On December 11, the Troop will have its annual Christmas Banquet. This is a catered meal, and all families and scouts are invited. There will be singing and Brandon Slay is the guest speaker. The outstanding patrols and scouts will also be recognized. Make reservations with the finance committee. Ticket price is not yet set, but last year was $7.50 each. Price will be set in early November. Support your sons and plan to attend. From 6:30-9:00pm.
HELP WANTED
Dads and moms are needed as merit badge counselors, either for one on one counseling or to teach groups. There are 118 different merit badges. Pick up the registration forms on Tuesday nights. There is no cost to sign up as a merit badge counselor. The Troop also needs help from parents with the tree lot operations, and with courts of honor and getting information out to parents. Check with Tim Enevoldsen if interested.
TREE LOT NEWS
Sign up has started. We need volunteer help from parents and scouts to set up the tree lot and sell trees. Sign up sheet is at the building. We request help on three shifts. All shifts are at the scout building. The lot opens this year the Friday after Thanksgiving. We assign all parents to help if they were not able to go to the building to sign up to help. We also need help calling shift workers and also need people to be lot managers and cashiers on their shift. We will have a training session for managers and cashiers later in the year, which will be announced in advance. Tree lot set up is November 3. The November camp is the next weekend. Set up starts at 8:00 am and ends by noon. All parents and scouts are invited to come and help. Patrols score points for each scout and parent attending and helping.
Program Notes
ASPL elections on December 4. Must be a Life Scout to run. SPL elections at committee meeting on December 4.
